Save and Repeat with Trimble SX10 Scanning Total Stations

 

If you are using a Trimble® SX10 scanning total station with Trimble Access 2020.20 to scan the same area multiple times, you can now quickly and easily repeat scans by loading the scan frame and settings from a previous scan in the same job or a linked job. For example you can scan an intersection before and after remedial work is undertaken, reusing the same scan frame to scan the exact same area making comparisons more straightforward.

There is now a “Scan name” field at the top of the scanning form when you are defining either a Horizontal band, polygon or rectangular frame. The name defaults to Scan0000 and then increments from there, or you can define the name yourself in the field. This scan name is the reference you have when loading a scan frame at a later date. 

You don’t need to complete the scan for it to be available to load in the future. Once the scan frame and parameters have been defined in the scanning form, you can tap the “Save” softkey. If you create an empty scan and then later do not want it to appear in the list of scans to load, you can delete it in the Review job screen.

To load a scan frame, in the main scanning form, tap the Load softkey at the bottom and then select the desired scan to load from the list. Note that:

  • The instrument must be set up on the same point as the scan you want to repeat. 
  • Ensure the At distance value is accurate so that the software can correctly recalculate the vertical angles and account for differences in instrument height between the scans.

Simply tap Start to repeat the scan, or if required, you can modify the loaded scan parameters first and then start the scan. The name of the subsequent scan, will be the original scan name with an _1 suffix. This suffix will increment for any subsequent scans with the same frame as well.

The surface inspection tool can be very useful in conjunction with the ability to save and repeat scans. For example, you can scan a floor once to find the high or low areas that need leveling with the surface inspection tool, and then after performing corrective work you can repeat the saved scan to confirm the floor is within the required tolerances.
