Keyboard Styles in Trimble Perspective

Welcome back for another Scanning Tip of the Week. This time we will go over keyboard style options in Trimble® PerspectiveTM.

Trimble Perspective uses the keyboard provided by the Microsoft® operating system on your mobile device, such as the Trimble® T100 or T10X. By default, the keyboard shows the alphabetical character portion of a standard keyboard.

Style 1

To access numbers and characters, press the &123 button in the lower left corner.

The keyboard can be reverted back to alphabetical characters by pressing the abc button in the same position as the &123 button. This keyboard style requires switching between these two menus when entering information in your Trimble Perspective projects. As an alternative, you can switch the keyboard style by selecting the keyboard and gear icon located above the Tab button.

This menu contains 3 rows of icons pertaining to a number settings. The top row provides 4 keyboard style options and an icon allowing the use of a stylus for writing. The middle row has an option for keyboard styles using the entire width of the screen or a reduced amount. The icons in the bottom row allow access to the tablet’s operating system options for language and typing settings.

For the purposes of this post, the 4 keyboard styles will be referred to by their position along the first row from left to right. For example, style 1 is the default setting on the far left, and style 4 is the option fourth from the left.

Now that we’ve gone over the default styles, let’s go over the other options.

Style 2

Style 2, shown below, gives a narrow keyboard with smaller buttons. The key layout is nearly identical to the default style but covers less of the screen.

Style 3

Style 3 uses a split keyboard layout that is best suited for thumb typing while holding each side of the device.

Style 4

Style 4 shows an alphanumeric arrangement that eliminates the need to switch between alphabetical characters and numerical values. It also provides a Windows button to quickly access the device’s operating search system. Note: To use the Windows button, select the button on the keyboard, then exit the keyboard using the X above the keyboard buttons.

The other options of a narrow or full width keyboard can be applied to the Style 1 or Style 4. The full width Style 4 option is shown above.

Selecting the narrow width option will result in the style shown below.

Trimble Perspective focuses on maximizing efficiency while in the field and providing a user-friendly experience. Options, such as with keyboard styles, make workflows better suited to a wide range of users. Reducing the number of keystrokes or switching to a more ergonomic setting can make a huge difference in your interaction with the software.

Let us know if this tip was helpful to you and as always, keep on scanning.
